Acuality vs. Reality
Defining terms is important in communicating with others.
The following concept is about “actuality vs reality”. Actuality is what exists in the universe. We might never know it because it is so complex and based in chaos theory. What exists might be so complex the human mind might not be able to percieve or understand it.
Consider that animals are able to smell scents we are not aware of. The honey bee can see colors we are not aware of. There are many life forms living in our world that sense things we do not. It is almost as if they are living in a different world.
We are limited by what our outer and inner “senses” tell us and we call that “reality”. The scents we can’t smell and the colors we can’t see are not “real” to us and are not part of our “reality”.
It is our subjective veiw of “Reality” that we live and act in. There is also a “collective reality” we agree on most of the time. For example we agree to drive on the right side of the road if we live in the United States.
There is a paradoxical element about actuality and reality. The closer our “reality” approximates “actuality”, the more successful our efforts will be. If we believe in a fantasy that is make believe it will never manifest results in physical life. If it works use it. If it does not work…throw it away. We are interested in results and in fulfillment of our needs. We are not interested in perpetuating illusion and superstition.
Another aspect of this issue is that a “close minded” person will achieve much more than an “open minded” person. The close minded person has no doubt about what is right and what is wrong. He or she does not hesitate to do what he or she feels is needed.
For personal empowerment we need to be “close minded”. This will grant us certainty and keep us tightly focussed on our goal. The trick is to be “close minded” in a healthy way. We do this by perfecting our personal veiw of reality or our “paradigm”.
In following our “inner authority” we get flashes of insight and personal “truths” that gradually become our “reality”. When we find our “true path” and “True Will” we know what is real for us. We become “close minded” in confidence that we are doing what is best for both ourselves and we are also helping the entire human race.

Living a Balanced Life
Our individual needs are complex and each person is different from their neighbor. Still we can simplify our needs into broad general catagories.
The important concept is to live “balanced” lives, giving attention to each major area. If we devote too much time and energy to one area, the areas we have neglected will create problems for us.
The ancients used astrology and the twelve houses to catagorize our individual needs.
They are:
Ego and self
Money and possessions
Travel
Family
Romance and Love
Work
Partnership and marriage
The Occult and death
Higher Education and Law
Our public image
Our hopes, dreams and wishes
Our restrictions
My appologies to any astrologers for mistakes I might make in this. It is simply a map or grouping of life’s major areas. We need to pay attention to each area in a balanced way if we want to be successful in life.
Anarchist World, the new online community has forums for these 12 areas to offer a well rounded experience and place to visit. This helps to ensure vital areas are covered for a balance approach to living.
In addition to devoting time to each of these areas there are seven other personal areas to be developed.
The most obvious deals with our physical need to stay alive in physical bodies. This includes body awareness, awareness of the environment through the physical senses, our ability to live in the moment. It also deals with the ability to stay alive.
Our physical and etheric bodies require nutrition and exercise to remain strong and healthy. There is a requirement to “live in the present moment” and develop these needs to the fullest capacity. It is through aerobic exercise we develop our ability to manifest our dreams in physical reality. There is nothing magickal about this.
We have our sexual needs and instinctual drive to perpetuate the human race through reproduction. This requires us to openly confront our sexual needs and interact with a partner in order to fulfill them. Repression of the sexual drive has caused death and perversion. Feelings of guilt and shame have made something beautiful and sacred seem dirty and ugly. We need to cultivate healthy attitudes about sexuality by finding an appropriate partner.
Joy, laughter, music and creativity are emotions that make life rich and rewarding. These are feelings that make life worthwhile. Have we set aside time to play each day?
Follow the way of our heart. What do we stand for? What things are sacred and make us who we are. What concepts and values define us and how others to see us. We need to believe in who we are and what we stand for. We need to believe in ourselves and in our ability to achieve personal happiness. There can be no compromise because we need to live with ourselves and the voice of our own conscience.
In communicating with others we learn we are not alone in our experience. Our ability to learn from others and to learn from our own mistakes allows us to progress and develop in life. It’s good to learn social skills and teach others what we know. We learn from others what we need as well.
We all have glimpses of insight that involve a “knowing” and percieving of “architypal” reality. It is through these intuitive “flashes” that our internal authority will reveal personal truth. These intuitive “flashes” form our personal paradigm or view of reality if we have enough of them and trust in them.
It is our personal view of reality that determines our physical actions and how we attempt to fullfill our needs. We do what we think is right, even if it is wrong. The more we listen to our internal authority, the more we will do the right thing.
It helps to remember we are all brothers and sisters, common members of the human race. We can’t hurt someone else without hurting ourselves. We are a part of the earth and what we do has purpose and is important.
Each and every day we should exercise our physical body, devote time to our primary relationships, play and have fun, do or read something inspiring. We can challenge our intellect by learning something new. Meditate and commune with our inner authority and lastly, reflect on the unity of all things and how each has it’s own place and time.

Internal Authority vs. External Authority
Internal Authority vs. External Authority
The first concept to discuss is that anyone and everyone has it within themselves to find happiness by fullfilling their own individual needs. This means you are competent to fill your own needs and I am competent to fill my own needs. The spark of the divine is within our hearts and can guide us in the fulfillment of our needs if we will listen to it.
This spark of the divine has been called the Christ Spirit, God/dess of our hearts, the Master Within, our conscience or even the still small voice. It is an internal authority and not an external authority. The true path to mystic power and enlightenment is when we follow our “inner authority” above all others.
This inner authority knows and understands our “True Will” and reason for living in this lifetime. By being free to act according to our own true nature we will do what is best for ourselves and by doing the best for ourselve, we will at the same time benefit the rest of humanity. In becoming who we are truely meant to be, the entire world benefits. There is no need to conform to the demands of any “external authority”.
We must be free to act according to our own nature. Turning to an external authority such as government or religion or the law to solve our problems and fulfill our needs will never work. We can’t allow ourselves to be forced or intimidated by any external authority.
We must remain true to our own “Inner Self” at all cost. We must not give our power away to others. This is what it means to be an Anarchistic Knight. Conceptual Initiation
There has always been a lot of secrecy and controversy surrounding secret organizations like the Rosicrucians and Freemasons. This is especially true concerning the nature of their initiations.
In a mostly illiterate world secret societies used theatrical drama and oral teaching methods to transmit advanced philosophical concepts. Many of the concepts were political dynamite and considered heresy by the church,
I will give a few examples to illustrate just what I mean.
Early Roscrucians and Freemasons believed that a mystical experience was possible for anyone. Personal contact with God or Divinity did not require the intersession of the Pope. The implication was that salvation did not require the Pope either. What was required was surrender to the Christ Spirit within our hearts. The still small voice that spoke as our conscience.
The bible is highly symbolic in nature and not to be taken literally. The world was not really created in seven days. It was a symbolism describing seven stages of creation. This conflict came to a head with the rise of evolution and Darwinism.
The early mystery schools taught reincarnation and karma. This was highly at odds with the one soul, one life, one heaven, one hell approach. We can not run from our problems because we will keep encountering them in future lifetimes. It is better to confront these painful lessons and deal with them squarely and honestly.
The Mark Master mason degree taught the importance of fraternity and helping each other. Masons were sworn to come to the assistance of a brother in need and to keep their word with each other. This was the root of doing business on a hand shake. It was a value that was once much stronger than it is today.
There is only one God or Deity and He/She has been recognized by the holy men and women of all ages and all nationalities. He/She has been known by many names under many religions but has always been the same. This means Allah, Jehovah, Goddess and others all refer to the “Grand Architect of the Universe”. The guiding intelligence behind creation.
While these initiations were physical and emotional, they were at the very core conceptual and life altering. The human mind once expanded out of its narrow box can never again return to such restricted thinking. These initiations were the path to personal freedom and empowerment.

Internet-The Final Frontier
In my last post I spoke about educational freedom and how the Holy Catholic Church was the sole “authorized” distributor of knowledge and literacy from the dark ages into the advent of the modern scientific age. This was true for western Europe.
The church no longer holds that absolute position thanks to the protestant rebellion and movements like Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry. These organizations taught higher philosophical concepts and universal truths to the common person through a series of dramas or initiations and oral learning. The candidate did not need to be literate.
At its height Freemasonry could claim a lodge in almost every community in the western world. This held true even when it was persecuted by the Holy Catholic Church as heresy. There was an alternative voice in the world that offered freedom and personal expression. What they created became known as scientific method and led to our public educational system. They were always strong advocates of public education.
Times have changed and today’s universities and publishing empires hold the power the church once had. In a burst of irony what once brought freedom now strangles freedom and independent thought. Anyone that has tried to succeed in life without a college education or get a book published knows what I mean. Being successful in today’s world has become more about who you know than how good you are.
Still, throughout history as power is accumulated in the hands of a few and becomes abused there is always a frontier of unregulated freedom where people can go to seek their fortunes.
As Europe became too opressive America became the place of personal freedom and opportunity for many seeking religious and philosophical freedom.
Now Big Brother tightens his unrelenting technological fist around our personal lives and the internet has become the alternative. College degrees are becoming increasingly worthless and people are searching for alternatives.
Instead of spending thousands of dollars on college classes and a lifetime of debt people are learning for free on the internet. Instead of paying $8.50 for a paperback book, people are finding alternative literature for free on the internet. This is still in a transitional phase but its effects are being felt around the world.
Advocates of a free internet have become the Rosicrucians and Freemasons of today’s world. They are still largely unorganized but in the process of drawing together under the umbrella of something called “Modern Survivalism”. Modern Survivalism is hard core reality in a technological world in combination with spiritual values and global ideals.
Its initiations include surfing the internet and learning how to create blogs and personal web pages. Its social element includes chat rooms that include people of like interests from around the world. This is truely an international community and a political power.

2-Educational Freedom
Imagine a world that is illiterate. For most of the past 2000 years education of any kind was not offered to the public. In Europe the Greek philosophers were an exception and a high point of literacy and deep thinking. Much of these concepts found their way into the Roman Republic and influenced the entire world.
Other European cultures that embraced literacy were the Irish and of course the Jews. It is interesting that both of these highly educated cultures were also highly persecuted. Apparently it is dangerous to know too much.
Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church plunged Europe into the Dark Ages and much knowledge was lost forever. It is during the rulership of the Roman Catholic Church that the story of Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry begins.
But perhaps first a little insight into Christianity itself and the Old Testament that it shares with Judaism and Islam.
Our story begins in ancient Egypt with the pharoh Aknaten. This pharoh brought the concept of monotheism into the world for the first time. It was not the Jewish religion that believed this. It was the Egyptian mystery school at Heliopolis. The Jewish people were still worshiping idols such as the golden calf.
The name of the one and only true God was “Ra” and much of the surviving literature about “Ra” and his worship is very beautiful.
To make a long story short, The Jewish people were living in Egypt at this time. It was when Moses was born. The Jewish people were being persecuted and Mose’s mother hid him in a basket and floated him down the Nile to where the daughter of the Pharoh found him.
This princess raised Moses as her own child and he was taught in the ancient mystery schools where he learned about monotheism and the one God. He also learned about magick and healing.
Later Moses led the Jewish people out of Egypt and into the wilderness. He went up into the mountain and came down with the 10 commandments that “Jahweh” had given him. The Jewish people were not interested and still worshiped the idol of a golden calf. The old testament tells us that this was a major turning point for the Jewish people. It was when they began to believe in the “one” God.
My point here is that both the Rosicrucians and Freemasons trace their history back to ancient Egypt and it’s mystery school at Heliopolis. Freemasonry traces it through the Jewish religion as well and claims to retain the teachings of “King Solomons Temple”. This is further traced through the Jewish Essene Community that was known as the “Bretheran in White” or the White Brotherhood.
The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry is openly Kabalistic and draws upon old testament material and Jewish mysticism. It is not considered Christian but pre-Christian. The York Rite of Freemasonry traces it’s history through an Egyptian Highpriest that was converted to Christianity.
The Rosicrucians trace their own history through related channels as well as through the alchemists and early scientists and philosophers. They were also heavily influenced by Gnostic Christianity and condemned by the Roman Catholic Church.
It is important to realize that certain philosophical concepts can not be grasped without a foundation being laid. Other philosophical concepts must first be encountered and assimilated. This can only happen through the process of “Higher Education”.
For most of Europe in the dark ages the Holy Roman Catholic Church was the only source of literacy unless you were rich enough to have a personal tutor. The common person was never exposed to philosophical concepts that might have made his or her life richer and more rewarding.
Instead, the external authority of the Church told them what to believe and how to live.

1-Modern Survivalism
Survivalism is an interesting word that is gaining acceptance and popularity today in response to its anti-thesis “corporate conformity”. As the world moves toward big brother and corporate conformity we find this equal and opposite movement within society as well.
In the computer industry and the internet community we can find examples in the contrast between open source software and material like Linux and corporate giants like Microsoft. The web browser Firefox uses open source material that is freely shared and Internet explorer uses closed source material that is highly protected.
The debate about keeping the internet free and the need to regulate it rages in political debates around the world. Both sides have their reasoning and valid concerns.
The real issue is about internal authority vs external authority. Do we need external authority with laws and regulations to restrict and control our lives? Can we be trusted to act upon our own internal authority being guided soley by the voice of our conscience?
These are hard questions and the real answer is that some people need to follow internal authority and others need external authority to feel safe. Humanity is divided along these lines and it always has been. There is no easy solution.
The Modern Survivalism movement is created out of a need for personal freedom, independence and self competence in living. Free individuals are uniting as a political force in expressing and making room for these values. These are largely the values the United States of America was founded upon.
Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry were the principle vehicles expressing these survivalist values. In colonial America Benjamin Franklin founded a Rosicrucian Settlement as a utopian community. The Boston Tea Party was a Masonic Lodge activity.
In Germany Martin Luther was the head of the Rosicrucian movement and the leader of the entire protestant movement away from the Catholic Church. This led to the Jacobite rebellion and the creation of many variants of Christianity.
In England Sir Francis Bacon was the head of the Rosicrucian movement and created the daring social experiment known as Freemasonry.
Today Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry are largely forgotten and devalued. They no longer apply to our modern world. Membership has faltered and they are not attracting the new blood of younger generations.
Their time is over but the values and ethics of personal freedom live on within the survivalism movement and within the internet itself.
Every generation has its own frontier and the internet is the frontier for our generation. The spirit of freedom is alive and well even if the names and terms have been changed.
At one time is was the Catholic church that needed to be challenged. In todays world the universities and corporations need to be challenged. The need for a college education and corporate conformity are buzz words that threaten personal freedom for generations to come.
Like the free internet and open source material there needs to be alternatives for the portion of society that can not flourish in a restrictive environment. There needs to be a vehicle for the expression of morals, values and self empowerment techniques that is available to everyone regardless of social position. All it takes is access to the internet.
That is what the OAK material is. It is an expression of timeless values and concepts placed within the framework of modern societiy and its needs. I am a Rosicrucian and a Freemason. Both vehicles are dying. They no longer appeal to the younger generation.
Modern Survivalism is taking their place. Modern Survivalism is where we need to be going to ensure personal freedom and independence for future generations. This will happen through a free internet.

Sacred Labor
Masonry has always taught that work is sacred. To learn and to do makes the soul grow. We learn by doing and not by speculating.
There is labor and there is rest from labor. Both are important and it is important for self-esteem that we earn our wages. Things that are not earned are not valued.
In doing things we learn to be successful and being successful becomes a habit. When we work earnestly, steadily and faithfully toward our goals they become attainable. It is vital that we have the experience of both labor and of success. This is the pathway to self-empowerment.
Idleness leads to depression. Understanding leads to action. When we know what must be done it become easy to do it. This is why we struggle to learn about ourselves and our world. The more we learn through doing, the more we understand and the more successful we become.
There is a give and take to the world that requires fair value. When we receive from others we must give equal in return or the scales will not be in balance.
Perhaps the most important thing about sacred labor is being realistic about the jobs we take on. Attempting to take on jobs that are too much for us is destructive to ourselves and those around us that become affected by our failure. Being successful on small ventures leads the way to success on larger ventures. It is the repeated success of small victories that steadily and faithfully moves us closer to our goals. There are no short cuts to our major goals in life. There are no easy paths or quick roads to riches.
We earn the right to a meaningful life through personal effort and hard won experience. If we refuse to try we can not expect to find meaning. If we remain shallow we can not experience the deep richness of full living.

Secrecy
Secrecy is a strong part of old Freemasonry and other secret societies. The thought is that secrecy is needed to protect and bind together those of like thought. It allows us to call upon each other in times of need as brothers and sisters.
I have another view that might add to this concept. It is similar to what Jesus meant when he talked about not casting pearls before swine. It is the reason that I am not mass marketing the OAK material.
The type of Knowledge given in the OAK material gives advantages to those that read and understand. It helps them to be more effective in all areas of living. It encourages a mindset of competency, hard work and discipline. These are important values that lead to personal freedom and empowerment.
You can not help someone that doesn’t want to be helped. You can’t save someone from themselves. Trying will only bring you down and lead to frustration and heartbreak. People do have the right to destroy their own lives.
The secret of the sphinx is to know, to dare and to keep silent. When we announce our intentions to the entire world we invite opposition and argument. When we tell people what we are going to do before we do it we are setting ourselves up for failure. It allows people to set up defenses against us and against what we are trying to do. It makes things much harder than they need to be.
It is much better to remain silent and go ahead with a project and let people deal with the consequences after it has been done. This is one of the big reasons for secrecy.
In the arena of social change we never really change what people believe, we just outlive the opposition! This means people of like hearts and minds linking together at the grass roots level and simply doing what needs to be done without broadcasting intentions.
In very real terms it is “us” and “them”. The world is based on polarity and things will either work for or against our goals. If we have a winning strategy and let everyone else know what our winning strategy is, it will no longer be a winning strategy! Some things do need to remain secret.

Keeping Our Obligations
The most important obligation we have is to ourselves. I remember as a child my conscience was slow in developing. I shop lifted and even went so far as to steal money from the offering box at church so I could have candy to eat during confirmation class!
This is not something I am proud of. In fact, it grew increasingly hard to live with myself. My spiritual crisis came at age fourteen when I finally realized it did not matter if God forgives me when I could not forgive myself. I could not stand to live hating myself for eternity.
I made a vow to live in such a way that my conscience would be clear always. To this day I have remained true to that vow. I may not have always done right but I have always done the best that I knew at the time. I do not believe one thing and do another instead against my conscience.
I may choose wrong but I know that my conscience will correct me in time. In this respect I am a man of my word and an authentic person.
It is amazing how people react to this. For the most part people really find my honesty refreshing and many, especially teenagers, feel comfortable around me. They feel they can be themselves because I am being myself.
Freemasonry teaches that obedience to the law does not mean submission to tyranny. The military teaches that we must not follow orders if they are illegal. POW’s learn that we all have a breaking point and the most important thing is to forgive ourselves when we break and start anew the next day.
Over and over we recognize the need to remain true to the inner voice of our conscience. We will be held accountable if we don’t.
Even so there is a growing voice in our society telling us that we must submit to external authority or else. Let those in power make our choices for us. They will make the choices but we will ultimately remain accountable. Doesn’t it seem like there is something wrong with that?
